The picturesque Eagle Harbor Lighthouse is one of the most well-known sights along M-26 heading up to Copper Harbor. Originally constructed in 1871, replacing a lighthouse constructed 20 years earlier, to help ships avoid an offshore reef in the area. The lighthouse has seen several upgrades throughout its life: the Fourth Order Fresnel Lens was replaced with a beacon in 1968 and the fog signal which was installed in the 1890s was removed in 1978 after being replaced with a floating bell buoy which can be heard from shore on windy days. The lighthouse was fully automated in 1980.
